The Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) of Lanark and Renfrew Counties is working with Mississippi Mills to create a Municipal Inclusion Charter. The LIP, one of 87 across the country aims to strengthen the role of local communities in integrating and serving newcomers.
LIP’s Gabriella Salera explains what the charter means.
The Lanark and Renfrew Counties LIP was created in 2008. It’s run out of Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus. Gabriella is very pleased that Mississippi Mills is more than willing to collaborate with her office, as they have in the past, and says the Charter means much more than just words on a document.
LIP will be holding a workshop with Council to work out the details of the Charter and Gabriella says the benefits are far-reaching.
It is hoped that Mississippi Mills will be a role model to other municipalities from Lanark and Renfrew Counties.
