Almonte District High School marked a major milestone yesterday, celebrating 150 years of education and community spirit. The event brought together alumni, families, and neighbours for a full day of festivities, including the Turkey Bowl football game, a golf tournament, and a special open house with live music and refreshments.
The North Lanark Regional Museum displayed historical items and a multimedia slideshow featuring photos and stories from across the decades. Students also contributed a new time capsule, designed by the Construction Tech class, to honour the school’s history.
Founded in 1875, ADHS has grown from a small stone schoolhouse into a thriving modern facility serving more than 600 students. Among its notable alumni is basketball inventor Dr. James Naismith. Principal Brenda Swrjeski said the celebration honoured generations of students and staff while highlighting the strong sense of pride that continues to define the school’s legacy.
