
Smiths Falls Police safely removed potential explosive materials from a local home on October 9, 2025. Officers launched an investigation after receiving information about possible explosive devices stored inside a residence.
During the investigation, police found blasting caps designed for use with dynamite. Out of caution, the Ontario Provincial Police Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and Smiths Falls Fire Service were called in to assist.
Working together, the OPP EDU team safely removed the blasting caps from the home without any injuries or damage.
The Smiths Falls Police Service thanked all agencies involved for their quick and professional response, which ensured the safety of nearby residents. Authorities have not released the exact location of the incident, but confirmed there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
