A major milestone takes place today in Smiths Falls as StructureCraft prepares to lift the town’s new Timber Bridge into place on Tuesday, October 21.
Using a 450-ton crane, crews will begin hoisting the preassembled structure onto new concrete abutments around 11 a.m. Residents are invited to watch the historic lift from outside the perimeter fencing as the landmark takes shape.
The bridge will be lifted in sections to stay within safe weight limits, with remaining work continuing through November. Upcoming tasks include installing wood deck panels, a steel roof system, lighting, stone capping, and final landscaping.
“This is an exciting milestone for Smiths Falls,” said Mayor Shawn Pankow. “The new Timber Bridge will serve as vital infrastructure and a beautiful symbol of community pride and craftsmanship.”
