Toonies for the Table is back in Perth, collecting donations for The Table Food Centre this holiday season.
The community-driven campaign, led by Councillor Isabelle Anne McCrae, has repurposed dozens of mason jars into donation jars placed at local businesses.
Supported by the Downtown Business Improvement Association, the Chamber of Commerce, and many local shop owners, the initiative is hoping to raise $20,000.
Rob Rainer, Executive Director of the Table CFC says that kind of donation would make quite a difference.
Councillor McRae the idea came about after the Table stepped up in 2023 to help those displaced by a fire at a Harvey St. apartment building. She told her grandaughter that she was concerned about the Table meeting other obligations.
Her granddaughter also had the idea to use jars.
McRae says Thompson Environmental Solution, a company owned by her Brother, The Lions Club, The Perth Legion, and senior homes among others support the now-annual community event.
Rainer says it’s just another example of how the community comes together to help one-another.
You can take part by dropping a Toonie (or whatever you can spare) in one of the labelled jars at businesses around town until December 17th.
