The RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food is back for it’s 19th year.
For the next six weeks, 11 communities will come together to collect non-perishable food and cash donations for local food banks at a vital time of year.
The first stop is this weekend in Carleton Place and Almonte where donations will be collected for the Lanark County Food Bank (The Hunger Stop.)
Executive Director Tammy Parent says, like other food banks in the region and across the country, times are tough.
Parent adds that the number of clients continues to rise, and they’re coming from all walks of life.
But she says, the communities of Carleton Place, Almonte and surrounding areas continues to answer the call.
Parent adds that its not only cash and food that are donated on a regular basis, but time as well.
On Saturday, the Build a Mountain of Food campaign will be in Almonte from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jonsson’s Your Independent Grocer, and in Carleton Place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Anderson’s Your Independent Grocer, FreshCo, and Giant Tiger.
Parent says they have a long list of needs that will help fill their shelves. When deciding what to donate, she says ask yourself what would I serve to my on family?
Cash is also king. Parent explains why that is.
