The Hackberry Men’s Shed in Carleton Place is more than just a workshop — it’s a warm community hub where men gather to build, create, and connect.
Their Doug Johnson says it’s more than a club.
Located on Donald Street, the shed is fully heated and filled with tools and materials for personal or community projects.
Members meet regularly throughout the week, with work sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, and again in the afternoons.
Johnson says a big part of what they do is supporting one another in good times and bad.
They also enjoy friendly chats, laughter, and occasional teasing that keep spirits high. Johnson says some are even promped to join by loved-ones.
The group holds biweekly breakfast meetings on alternate Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at the Gourmet Restaurant on Highway 7, and weekly evening gatherings at 6:30 p.m. at the Carleton Place Arena.
Membership costs just $5 per year, with extra support coming from grants and an annual garage sale.
