The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) is proud to announce that Almonte General Hospital (AGH) has been recognized by Ontario Health’s Trillium Gift of Life Network (TGLN) with the Outstanding Achievement Award for Provincial Routine Notification Rate for 2024/25. Chief Nursing Executive Lianne Learmonth provides the details.
Lianne reported that these notifications must occur within 1 hour of a patient’s passing. She notes that the number of patients with signed donor cards is on the rise.
According to Ontario Health, one organ donor can save up to eight lives and enhance the lives of many others through tissue donation. Yet only 35 per cent of eligible Ontarians are currently registered as donors. Lianne provides the amazing number of gifts that the Almonte Hospital and Fairview Manor teams were able to facilitate.
This year, Ontario Health recognized a record 50 hospital partners across the province for their leadership in organ and tissue donation, the highest number in the program’s history. Community members are encouraged to visit BeADonor.ca and talk to their families about their wishes. Every registration has the power to save or transform lives.
