The RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food Campaign saw another strong day of community support as it rolled into Perth and Lanark on Saturday.
In Lanark, residents rallied behind the Lanark Highlands Food Pantry with 3,600 pounds of food and $3,350 in cash. That total includes a major $2,500 donation from the Lanark Civitan Club, helping push the campaign past expectations.
Perth delivered an even larger impact for the Perth Good Food Bank, with an impressive 71,500 pounds of food collected along with $10,462 in cash donations.
Major pledges boosted Perth’s totals. Matthew Barnabe of Barnabe’s Your Independent Grocer donated 35,000 pounds of food, while Gord Jones of Giant Tiger added another 20,000 pounds. Metro continued its match program, covering financial donations across all stores up to $7,500.
Metro also hosted its third annual Shopping Cart Race, where Perth Blue Wings players faced off against staff. The race produced $8,053.28 worth of food for local families.
Foodsmiths contributed two full pallets of food, plus additional customer donations.
