The Smiths Falls Cubs Under-13 girls team has climbed to the top of the province.
Head coach Keith Rhoden says the squad was officially ranked number one in Ontario this week, in what he calls an “unbelievable year.”
Going into the weekend, the team had 39 goals for and only eight against, including seven shutouts from their goaltending duo.
In league play, they were 6-0-2 with 31 goals scored. Rhoden says the strong standings are no accident.
The Cubs compete in a tough seven-team division featuring East Ottawa, Gatineau, Rockland and Nepean, with six teams currently in Ontario’s top 10.
Rhoden, now in his 35th year coaching, says this group can go all the way.
He adds the team has invested in extra ice time to stay sharp, and heads to Vermont next weekend for another tournament.
