Perth Town Councillor Anne McRae has moved into the quarter-finals of the international Style Icon competition tied to the Elton John AIDS Foundation — and she says she never could have reached this stage without remarkable support from the community and local businesses.
McRae won her group late last week after a strong push of public votes. Now, she’s hoping to build on that momentum as she competes for the top prize:
Voting is free, and McRae stresses it only takes a few seconds. Supporters can vote every 24 hours online (the link is at the bottom of this page.) She notes there are occasional bonus periods that allow double or triple votes.
She hopes residents across Lanark County — and across the broader region served by both charities — will join in.
McRae says she’s been surprised by how far this campaign has taken her, especially since the contest is well outside her personal comfort zone.
McRae says the stores have been helping with styling, photos, staging and encouragement.
The Councillor insists the contest is not about personal recognition — it’s about spotlighting local shops, designers and services during one of their most important seasons of the year.
The last time she was in anything resembling a pageant, she jokes, was the Lanark County Dairy Princess competition in her early twenties.
McRae hopes the campaign inspires more people to explore and support Perth’s downtown.
Voting ends on November 28th. You can lend a hand and cast yours here to help McRae win the funding for the Table CFC and Hospice Hub.
