Lanark County is moving ahead with a key project that will help bring faster, more reliable internet to rural residents.
County council has approved a ground site lease agreement with Xplore Fibre Ahsip Network L.P. to install a new fibre network hub shelter along County Road 511 between Balderson and Lanark Village.
The small 8-by-8-foot structure will play an important role in Ontario’s Accelerated High-Speed Internet Program, which aims to improve connectivity in underserved areas. Director of Public Works Sean Derouin told the public works committee last month that the site is needed to support expanding fibre service throughout the region.
Nearby property owners were notified about the plan, and the county says no objections were raised.
Officials say the hub is a significant step toward improving broadband service for rural homes and businesses, where slow and unreliable connections remain a challenge.
The county expects the project to boost long-term access to high-speed internet and support future growth across Lanark.
