Perth resident and entrepreneur Toby Shannan appeared at Perth Council on November 25th with news on his efforts to purchase and transform the soon-to-close Perth Campus of Algonquin College into a not-for-profit trades educational facility.
He reported on a major snag in obtaining ownership of the site.
His request to council was to create a zoning for the property to deter any potential housing or commercial development.
Shannan indicated he’s had conversations with Smiths Falls and Carleton Place as potential sites, but was hoping Perth could put the right amount of pressure on Algonquin.
Planning staff was requested to investigate Shannon’s rezoning request and report back.
He stated he’s hoping to have a meeting with Claude Brulé, the president of Algonquin College, soon to try to move things forward.
