The Elgin Food Bank is preparing for a busy weekend as the RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food Drive rolls into town on Saturday, and Pastor Bob Crump says certain items are urgently needed.
Crump says peanut butter remains one of the most popular staples because of its protein content, even though it can’t be used in school snacks. And he has some more suggestions.
For children, the food bank relies heavily on nut-free granola bars and other school-safe options.
He adds that while many people donate generously, some items aren’t useful.
Financial donations are also essential. Crump says cash helps the food bank buy fresh milk for every visit and more.
The RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food drive runs in Elgin tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon at Gordanier Freshmart.
