The Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) has launched a series of free workshops designed to help people from underrepresented groups prepare to run in the October 2026 municipal elections.
The 90-minute session gives potential candidates a clear look at how municipal politics works, what’s required to get on the ballot, and what challenges new voices may face. AMO says the workshop focuses on practical strategies, confidence-building, and understanding local government roles.
The next two dates are set for early 2026. The workshops will be held again on February 4 from 10:30 a.m. to noon, and on April 8 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., giving participants multiple chances to join.
AMO encourages anyone considering a campaign — especially residents who may not see themselves represented on local councils — to take part and learn what it takes to run.
Registration for all sessions is available through AMO’s website.
