The Smiths Falls Police Service is stepping up its Festive RIDE program, reminding drivers that officers across Eastern Ontario are out in full force as holiday celebrations ramp up.
Constable Sean Keogan says impaired driving remains one of the most preventable risks on local roads — especially at this time of year. He says the season brings more parties, more travel, and more chances for people to make dangerous decisions.
Keogan says officers have already conducted several RIDE checks and more are planned in the coming weeks. Drivers may not know where stops will be set up, but police say the increased presence is deliberate — and necessary.
He stresses that Smiths Falls is small enough that safe options are always available, from taxis to walking or calling a friend. Police also urge the public to report suspected impairment immediately by calling 9-1-1.
The Smiths Falls Police Service says the goal is simple: keep every family safe this holiday season.
