The latest edition of Silence Broken, the weekly LanarkLeedsToday.ca podcast, is putting a strong focus on the 16 Days of Activism and the importance of marking December 6 — Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Executive Director of Lanark County Interval House, Erin Lee, says the campaign is full of events that encourage learning, reflection, and action. One highlight was the launch of the new Men as Allies video.
Lee says one of the campaign’s goals is helping residents feel connected to the issue.
December 6 remains a powerful day, honouring the 14 women murdered in the 1989 Montreal Massacre.
A community vigil will be held at 1 p.m. at the Women’s Monument in Perth.
For those unable to attend, Lee says the public art mosaics in Smiths Falls, Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills offer peaceful spaces for quiet reflection.
The 16 Days campaign ends December 10, but Lee says the work continues year-round.
