The Perth-Upon-Tay Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244 welcomed proud families and school staff on December 4th as it hosted the 2025 Awards Ceremony for its annual Remembrance Day Posters and Literary Contest. The event brought together students from across the region, celebrating their artistic and writing talents while highlighting the importance of honouring Canada’s veterans.
The contest invites students to reflect on the meaning of Remembrance Day through visual art and written work. Legion officials say this year’s submissions were some of the strongest in recent memory.
Branch 244 Contest Chair Don Boudreau thanked the community for its continued support, noting that schools play a major role in keeping Remembrance Day traditions alive. Participating schools included Perth and District Collegiate Institute, St. John’s Catholic Elementary School, St. John’s Catholic High School, Queen Elizabeth School, North Elmsley School, Drummond School and the Perth Children’s House.
Judges Tom Thompson and Derek Ingersol were tasked with reviewing dozens of entries, describing the process as challenging but deeply meaningful. Winning submissions now move on to the Zone level, where students will compete against peers from across the region.
Each winning student received a monetary prize and a certificate recognizing their achievement. Legion members say the awards are a way to encourage young people to express gratitude for the service and sacrifices made by Canadian veterans.
Front row winners included Charlotte Smith, Abigail Kennedy and Lucas.
Back row honourees were Krish Patel, Silas Todd, Ben Tanner, Elenore Pradonick, Bella Roy, Florence Awoyemi Samuel, Taylor Rogers, Alice McGloin and Addison Hall.
Organizers say the enthusiasm shown by students each year proves the contest continues to inspire the next generation.
