The president of the Athens Food Bank says this weekend’s RCL Automotive Build A Mountain of Food stop comes at the perfect time as volunteers prepare to restock shelves for the new year.
Shirley Bernice McLean says the community’s support has been extraordinary, especially as Christmas hampers go out this Friday.
McLean says about 60 Christmas hampers are being prepared, and volunteers continue to play a key role. She says the group is fun, hardworking and deeply committed to helping families through the holidays.
She adds that donated money goes directly back into client support through grocery vouchers at local stores.
McLean says Athens shoppers are already stepping up by purchasing pre-packaged $10 grocery bags to drop into the Build A Mountain truck. She expects another strong turnout on Saturday as the campaign wraps up its final weekend in Athens and Delta.
Here are the final stops for this year’s campaign.
