Smiths Falls officially marked a major milestone this week with the ribbon cutting of its new state-of-the-art water tower, a project Mayor Shawn Pankow says has been “many years in the works.”
The new structure replaces the town’s 101-year-old tower, which served the community for more than a century.
Pankow says the new system was carefully engineered to meet long-term growth needs, and even built slightly larger than required to future-proof water service for decades to come.
The mayor noted that three different town councils played a role in advancing the project, underscoring how significant the upgrade is for Smiths Falls. With proper maintenance, he says the modern design could last “in perpetuity,” giving residents reliable pressure and storage for generations.
Pankow says the tower represents confidence in the community’s future.
