Smiths Falls council asked their questions to Alto Rail representatives in their bid to be a stop on the future path of the high-speed train service.
Mayor Shawn Pankow asked Senior Director of Public and Government Relations Peter Paz what it would take to be included.
Paz says above all else, the efficiency of the travel is the key. They aim to offer journeys from Toronto to Montreal in less than three hours and any additional stops outside of the planned seven add to that.
Councillor Chris McGuire inquired about the relationship between Alto and VIA Rail, and how they’ll co-exist.
Paz responded.
Alto trains are planned to run mostly on new, dedicated tracks designed for high speed rail, not the same existing routes VIA Rail uses.
