Lanark Highlands Township is preparing to oppose Cavanagh Construction’s appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) after Council directed its legal counsel to begin preparing its case.
The decision was made on December 9, 2025, following a detailed briefing from the Township’s lawyers.
The appeal concerns the lack of decision on Cavanagh Construction’s applications for an Official Plan Amendment and a Zoning By-law Amendment.
Council says the direction reflects careful consideration of the planning issues involved, along with concerns raised by community members. By taking this step, the Township will be able to fully participate in the Tribunal process and ensure that local planning policies and community interests are represented.
Township officials acknowledge that many residents are watching the file closely.
An advocacy group, Friends of Lanark Highlands, formed in direct opposition of the pit. At the most recent public meeting, over 200 residents attended.
Updates will be shared as the process evolves, through the Township’s website and official communication channels.
