The founder of the Perth Polar Bear Plunge says teams and individuals can still sign up as organizers prepare for another huge New Year’s Day event supporting the Perth Legion.
The plunge has raised more than $510,000 since its first icy jump in 1993, and this year’s beneficiary — Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244 — marks its 100th anniversary.
Dave Lavery, speaking from Dubai, says excitement is building, but there’s still time to sign up.
He emphasized the Legion’s deep connection to the event, calling it the historic “home” of the plunge.
The January 1st event includes breakfast, a mandatory safety briefing and the traditional jump into the Tay River. Teams and individuals can register or donate at PerthPolarBearPlunge.com.
Lavery says the real success comes from the community’s spirit, adding that Perth residents always rally behind a good cause — even when it involves diving into icy water on New Year’s morning.
