Rideau Lakes council will spend at least $150,000 to rent three snow plow trucks for the winter.
They’re replacing three trucks which suffered smoke and heat damage due to a November 9th fire at the Crosby MTO garage.
Staff said the township did not opt in to rental coverage with their insurance provider so they’re on the hook for the full amount.
It’s a tough cheque to write, says Councillor Dustin Bulloch .
Staff gathered costs from local contractors but they did not have available trucks.
The price tag is hefty, but Manager of Roads and Drainage Dan Chant says they’re needed as their current stop-gap isn’t cutting it.
Chant said the three lost trucks made up one third of their fleet. In his report, Chant said the township, “would not be able to meet our winter maintenance standards without adding trucks.”
Staff said the township is on the hook for the whole price as they do not have rental coverage through their insurance provider, an option they’re now exploring for the future.
They’ll enter into an agreement with Miller Group, who offered the three trucks at a cost of $12,500.00/month for a four-month minimum for a total of $150,000.00.
