The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority (RVCA) is urging residents to exercise caution near rivers, streams and other waterbodies as a two-day rain and warming event approaches.
Environment Canada forecasts 10 to 20 mm of rain Friday, Dec. 19, with above-zero temperatures contributing to snowmelt and potential ice destabilization. While major flooding is not expected, localized flooding may occur in low-lying areas, ditches and stormwater features.
Residents are advised to supervise children near water, ensure sump pumps and downspouts are working properly, and secure items that could float away.
The water safety statement is in effect until Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. The RVCA will provide updates as conditions change.
