Local author and historian Arlene Stafford Wilson is shining a spotlight on some of Lanark County’s most iconic homes in her new book, Lanark County Mansions. The thirteenth title in her Bygone Days series explores the people behind the grand estates — and the extraordinary lives they lived.
Stafford Wilson told our Lynda D’Aoust, the goal of the book is to show that these historic homes were more than just impressive architecture — they were the backdrop to dramatic and often surprising stories.
Lanark County’s reputation for heritage homes is well known, but Stafford Wilson says the concentration of preserved limestone and sandstone mansions is something special.
Arlene told Lynda that her book highlights properties throughout the region, including well-known estates in Perth, Almonte, Carleton Place, Lanark Village and Smiths Falls. She hopes the stories inspire more people to appreciate and protect local heritage.
Lanark County Mansions is available at local bookstores in Perth and Almonte and can also be ordered online at StaffordWilson.com.
