The Smiths Falls Police budget for 2026 is seeing a marginal increase by comparison to 2025.
Mayor and Police Board Chair Shawn Pankow defended having local police as opposed to being serviced by the OPP, which has been a debate in the town for years.
The 3% increase in 2026 brings the SFPS budget to $6,755,631.98, a more moderate boost from the 19% jump last year.
Pankow said that large investment was necessary.
The SFPS also hired additional constables to help reduce overtime hours
