Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry, now a decade into her political life and well into her second term as Mayor has provided plenty of inspiration to women through her work. Even so, the news caught her off guard that she was given an honourable mention in Municipal World’s 2025 Women of Influence in Local Government Award.
After the news had settled on her and she completed an interview with the magazine, she received another pleasant shock; the names of those responsible for her nomination.
As was noted by Municipal World, Christa has been a tireless recruiter of both men and women for public service. She always provides the same answer when someone asks if it might be a good life move.
She says one of the ways that works best for her when responding to someone online or in person who might have a bone to pick, is to first and foremost be respectful and engage with people on a personal level. She finds that approach brings the same in return and works well when dealing with difficult topics. It’s a practice that her municipality uses during their regular and frequent public information sessions to keep residents up to date and to get their feedback on any number of issues. She notes she has the best job.
