The Smiths Falls Community Food Bank has earned national accreditation, marking a major milestone for the local organization and boosting confidence among clients and donors.
Volunteer Valerie Engelhardt said the food bank has officially achieved accreditation through Food Banks Canada after months of work aligning policies with new national standards.
Englehart explained the process was part of a Canada-wide push to ensure food banks follow consistent rules and best practices.
She credited Executive Director Natalia Soteroff for leading the effort, which included developing clear procedures for food handling, donor relations, and public service.
The accreditation, part of Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence, signals accountability, transparency, and a commitment to continuous improvement, according to the organization.
Engelhardt said the designation is about trust as much as process.
She added the achievement sets the local food bank apart.
The food bank began its accreditation journey in October and is now among early leaders as national standards roll out ahead of 2026.
