The Perth Blue Wings made a splash ahead of Saturday’s EOJHL trade deadline, sending captain Max Shewfelt and goaltender Jake Dignard to the Embrun Panthers.
Head Coach Bryan Greer said goaltending’s been a weaker point this season, and Friday’s game against Arnprior where Dignard surrendered five of the eight goals against was the tipping point.
Dignard posted a 5-10-1 record, surrendering 73 goals with a 0.896sv% and 4.25 goals against average across 18 games for the Blue Wings.
Shewfelt, meanwhile, led the club points for most of the season, and was their leading goal scorer with 18.
Greer says despite the forward being included, this was a goalie-centered trade.
The Blue Wings bring back ’08 goalie Jackson Howell, a netminder Greer says they’ve been scouting a while.
He holds a 3-7-3 record with a 0.899sv% goals against average of 3.96.
Perth also acquired the signing rights to Connor Bain, who has nine goals and 22 points in 15 games for the U18 AAA Upper Canada Cyclones.
