Members of the Royal Canadian Legion in Smiths Falls kicked off 2026 by recognizing outstanding service during the branch’s annual New Year’s Day Levee, attended by more than 170 people.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to members of the legion colour party, recognizing their dedication to ceremonies and community events throughout the year.
The Legionnaire of the Year Award for 2025 was presented to Comrade Peter Jerome. Branch officials said Jerome’s leadership, commitment, and willingness to step in whenever needed made him a deserving recipient of the honour.
A Certificate of Merit from provincial command was also awarded to the branch Ladies Auxiliary. The auxiliary was praised as the backbone of the legion, providing essential support for events, fundraising, and branch activities.
Special thanks were extended to Bonita and the Ladies Auxiliary team for organizing and supporting the New Year’s Day Levee.
Legion leaders said the strong turnout reflected the community’s appreciation for the volunteers who help keep the branch active and welcoming year-round.
