Thanks to an innovative idea from Perth Councillor Isabel Anne McRae, the Hospice Hub is launching a great fundraiser to help support the good work that they do, with the added bonus of getting people active and beating the winter blahs in the Perth and District Indoor Pool.
Waves for Hospice kicks off on February 4th with a special luncheon at Maximilian Restaurant. On Monday February the 9th, the waves start when participants hit the pool, raising money from pledges.
The keynote speaker at the luncheon will be none other than a true Canadian icon of swimming; Vickie Keith. Isabel lists some of her accomplishments
Tickets to the luncheon are $40 and thanks to sponsorship from Scott Somerville of Century 21 Synergy Realty, this event will provide a great start to the fundraising. Waves for Hospice starts on February 9th and runs for 7 weeks until March 30. Joan Stephenson-Bowes tells us how the fundraiser works.
Participation tracking is done on an honour-system and there will be weekly draws for prizes. The Pool has increased swim times to accommodate the expected additional swimmers. Awards will be presented for the youngest and oldest participants, longest distance, most aquafit classes and family swims. Isabel will be participating and tells of her goal.
Registration can be done in person at the Pool or online at thehospicehub.ca. You can also call 613-627-0974. The website is also the place to get tickets for the luncheon which are going fast. Participants are urged to reach at least $200 in pledges and will be receiving a tee-shirt for those efforts. Start the year off with a splash for a great cause! The Hospice Hub is a community-led initiative that provides comprehensive, compassionate, and integrated services to support anyone at end of life and bereavement, including their family and caregivers wherever they call home.
