The Smiths Falls Police Service is rolling out a new voluntary camera registry program aimed at helping solve crime and strengthen community engagement.
The program, known as CamSafe, allows residents and businesses to register the location of their security cameras online.
Police do not have live access to the cameras. Instead, the registry helps officers quickly identify who may have video in an area when a crime occurs.
Patrol officer Mike Hart says the system saves valuable time during investigations.
Participation is entirely optional, and even registered users are never required to share footage.
Police say the registry supports a community-policing approach and encourages residents to work with officers.
Residents can sign up now at camsafe.ca.
