Smiths Falls is receiving more than $13 million in provincial funding to upgrade critical water infrastructure, clearing the way for a long-awaited project tied directly to the town’s new water tower.
Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan says the funding will allow the town to move ahead with upgrades to its trunk watermain, a key piece of infrastructure needed to fully support the growing community.
Jordan says the announcement follows years of advocacy by Smiths Falls council and staff through municipal forums such as AMO and ROMA.
The $13.3 million investment comes through Ontario’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream and will also support sewer separation work.
Jordan says the project is essential to maximizing the performance of the new water tower and reducing financial pressure on the municipality.
The upgrade is expected to support continued growth and development in Smiths Falls for years to come.
