At a recent Perth council meeting, a public session was held to review a development application to build a row of six town-homes on the corner of Cockburn and Arthur Streets.
Town Planner Joanna Bowes explained what the final build would be.
The applicant was seeking relief from having to provide two parking spaces for each residential unit, including the ones located inside four of the units.
Staff noted that any relief on parking granted by council would be used by future developers to demand the same.
Councillor David Bird questioned the rationale behind defending a minimum parking standard if it was going to be waived on a regular basis.
In the end, council’s committee voted to accept cash in lieu of the four parking spaces that the proposal didn’t include, for a total fee of $20,000.
