Bridging Generations-Age Friendly Pakenham is a volunteer run, community-based organization that’s connecting older residents to inter-generational, and community action activities to help build strong connections and a resilient “age-friendly” community.
Bridging Generations’ volunteers work collaboratively to identify issues and find solutions that impact the community of Pakenham Hamlet and Ward. One of the founders Sherryl Smith tells us of how things started.
They’ve tackled everything from drinking water quality to connecting seniors with students for book writing. Smith lists just some of the issues they’ve worked on.
Bridging Generations was recently honoured at the Rural Ontario Municipal Association conference by Ontario Minister for Seniors and Accessibility, Raymond Cho for their work in helping to create an age-friendly community.
Smith says it’s a main driver in all they do.
