Smiths Falls police are thanking the community after residents stepped up to support local Special Olympics athletes through the Tim Hortons Special Olympics donut campaign this past weekend across Canada.
Smiths Falls Police Service Constable Sean Keogan, a long-time volunteer with the Special Olympics, says the fundraiser is just another way the Canadian chain gives back.
Keogan says money raised through the donuts supports local Special Olympics athletes and helps cover the rising costs of training and competition.
He says even small purchases like the weekend’s effort help remove financial barriers for athletes who want to stay active and compete.
They’re still counting the proceeds from the weekend’s “Tim Hortons Special Olympics donut.”
Keogan says community support continues to play a key role in helping local athletes take part in sport and represent the area with pride.
