The Smiths Falls Police Service says officers were called to a local retail store on Jan. 16, 2026, after a theft was reported. Police attended the area and began an investigation. Officers say surveillance video from the store helped identify a suspect.
A short time later, police located the individual and laid a charge.
As a result of the investigation, 20-year-old Tyler Greer of Smiths Falls has been charged with one count of theft under $5,000.
Police say the accused was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
Investigators say no injuries were reported and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
Police are reminding businesses and residents to report suspicious activity as soon as possible and to preserve any video that could help investigators.
