Wayne Steggles of the Kinsmen of Smiths Falls, and the Rotary Club's Tracy Staples
Smiths Falls service clubs are coming together for a major community food drive aimed at helping families during one of the toughest times of the year.
The Rotary Club of Smiths Falls and the Kinsmen Club of Smiths Falls are working alongside the Legion, Lions and Civitan clubs in support of the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank.
Rotary Club president Tracy Staples says the project grew out of monthly meetings between service clubs.
Kinsmen vice-president Wayne Steggles says the timing is important, with many residents feeling financial pressure after the holidays.
Staples says the need in the community continues to grow.
Steggles says teamwork from local businesses and volunteers has been strong.
The food drive runs February 6 and 7 and February 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., at Food Basics, Giant Tiger, Garden Market and Jonsson’s Your Independent Grocer. Cash and donations of pre-assembled bags prepared by the host grocery stores will be graciously accepted.
