The Smiths Falls Police Service says officers were called to a home in Smiths Falls on Jan. 17, 2026, after receiving information about an intimate partner disturbance.
Police say officers arrived at the residence and began their investigation. As police entered the home, the suspect attempted to flee through a rear window. After a short foot pursuit, the individual was taken into custody.
As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old man from Smiths Falls is charged with assault causing bodily harm, assault, criminal harassment, four counts of failing to comply with a probation order, two counts of failing to comply with a bail release order, two counts of breach of recognizance, and one count of resisting a peace officer.
Police say the accused was held in custody for a bail court hearing.
Then, on Jan. 19, police say they received further information that the accused was breaching non-communication conditions while in custody at a correctional facility. An additional investigation is ongoing.
