Got used batteries piling up at home? The Carleton Place Public Library now makes recycling them easy. The library has partnered with Call2Recycle and is officially a battery recycling drop-off location.
You can bring in most household batteries weighing five kilograms or less.
That includes common alkaline batteries like AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt and 9-volt, along with button and coin cell batteries and lithium primary batteries. Rechargeable batteries are also accepted, including lithium-ion, nickel cadmium, nickel metal hydride, nickel zinc, and small sealed lead-acid batteries.
Some batteries are not accepted. Please don’t bring damaged, leaking, or recalled batteries, wet-cell car batteries, batteries over five kilograms, or batteries from e-mobility devices like e-scooters or vapes.
Before you drop batteries off, some will need terminal protection. That simply means taping the ends with clear packing tape, duct tape, or electrical tape—or placing single batteries in a clear, sealed plastic bag.
If you’re not sure what needs taping, help is available.

Recycle safely—and help keep harmful materials out of the landfill.
