A special weather statement is in effect for the LanarkLeedsToday.ca listening area, as heavy snow moves in today.
All school bus transportation to Upper Canada and Catholic district school board schools has been cancelled, but schools remain open.
Environment Canada says 7 to 12 centimetres of snow is expected, with reduced visibility during the heaviest snowfall. The snow is expected to begin this morning and continue into the afternoon or evening.
Drivers and pedestrians are being urged to use extra caution as road and sidewalk conditions may deteriorate quickly.
Residents are advised to allow extra time for commuting and errands across Lanark and Leeds.
Motorists are also reminded to clear snow from vehicles before leaving and to slow down in poor conditions.
Officials say residents should continue checking forecasts and road reports before heading out later today for updates.
