At Rideau Lakes council committee meeting on February 9th, councillors debated whether or not to add two questions to this October’s municipal election ballot.
\The first was to ask voters if they approved refurbishing the existing township offices at Chantry and the second was to see if they wanted battery electricity storage systems to be allowed.
The clerk indicated that 37 emails were received on the subject with the overwhelming majority indicating the questions shouldn’t be on the ballot. Propositions such as this require that 50% of eligible voters participate and that the results would be binding on the newly elected council. The last three elections averaged only 39% voter turnout.
In a recorded vote on each of the two questions, the motions failed by a large margin.
