A new community-wide campaign in Perth is encouraging residents and organizations to reach out to seniors who may be feeling alone this winter.
Seniors Social Connection Week runs from Feb. 15 to 21 and is being coordinated by PEP Seniors Therapeutic Centre and several local partners.
PEP Program coordinator and acting executive director Maureen Crook says the campaign is designed to raise awareness about how important social connection is for older adults.
Crook says the week is built around collaboration between local organizations working together to support seniors across the Perth area.
Organizations will host activities during the week and work together to intentionally connect with vulnerable seniors through visits, phone calls, messages, and simple acts of support.
Crook says connections do not have to be complicated.
PEP will host a games afternoon Tuesday at 2 p.m., with registration required. A full calendar will be posted online.
Crook says everyone in the community can help.
The campaign also aims to strengthen partnerships with local businesses, volunteers and intergenerational groups.
