A Smiths Falls family is turning heartbreak into hope with a Valentine’s Day benefit dance to help cover medical and travel costs for their baby daughter.
Jessica Watts says her nine-week-old daughter, Laney, was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare childhood eye cancer, on New Year’s Eve. Lainey lost her eye at just five weeks old and now needs ongoing care and prosthetic support.
Watts says the family is facing major costs that are not fully covered.
Watts says Laney continues to undergo treatment and follow-up procedures at Toronto’s SickKids Hospital.
The Children’s Valentine’s Day Dance runs Saturday, February 14, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Smiths Falls Lions Club. Tickets are $10 per family. Proceeds will support travel, accommodations and prosthetic needs for Laney.
