A local family is turning daily walks into a powerful message of hope and awareness for Prader-Willi Syndrome.
Robbie Hull, well known in the community for his positive spirit and determination, lives with the rare genetic disorder. His mother, Marlen explained the condition during a recent interview.
The disorder can also bring other challenges, including scoliosis and varying cognitive abilities.
But Robbie has worked hard to manage his health. He weighs himself daily and adjusts his eating and exercise if needed.
Walking has become his passion — and his platform for fundraising.
During walking awareness months in February and August, participants are encouraged to walk a kilometre a day and share their progress. Last August alone, Robbie logged 157 kilometres. One year, he reached an incredible milestone.
Those thousand kilometers, and all of his efforts support the Ontario Prader-Willi Association and inspire others in town and beyond. Friends have even walked in his honour while travelling overseas.
Robbie’s father Greg Hull says his son’s strength goes far beyond distance.
Greg says Robbie couldn’t live in a better place, and he’s become well known and spotted all over town.
Residents can follow Robbie’s journey online and support research through the Ontario Prader-Willi Association.
Marlene says, there are others ways to show support too, especially this spring where people are invited to take part in a special month.
As for Robbie says the work makes him feel proud.
