The Ontario government is investing more than $6.6 million to rehabilitate bridges and improve a busy intersection in Smiths Falls, part of a provincewide effort to strengthen infrastructure and support economic growth.
The funding, delivered through the Connecting Links program, will support work on Beckwith Street structures and upgrades at the Lombard, Brockville and Jasper Street intersections.
Lanark–Frontenac–Kingston MPP John Jordan said the investment will help complete critical infrastructure improvements in the downtown core.
Mayor Shawn Pankow said the funding will help preserve aging bridges over the Rideau Canal and improve safety and traffic flow at one of the town’s busiest intersections.
Jordan said the program plays a key role in helping municipalities manage costly infrastructure projects.
Ontario is investing more than $46 million this year in Connecting Links projects across 20 municipalities.
