Lanark County is preparing to mark International Women’s Day on March 8 with a series of local events aimed at promoting equality and ending gender-based violence.
On the latest episode of Silence Broken: The IPV Talks, Lanark County Interval House’s Erin Lee said this year’s global theme — “rights, justice, action” — resonates locally as agencies work together to break down barriers for women and girls.
Events are planned across the listening area. RONA in Carleton Place will host community outreach from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Maplestone Ranch and Retreat is donating 50 per cent of proceeds from special sessions to Interval House. The Canadian Federation of University Women is hosting an event in Perth.
Lee also pointed to permanent spaces for reflection, including community pebble mosaics in Smiths Falls, Almonte and Carleton Place.
