A Smiths Falls resident is facing impaired driving charges after Lanark County OPP responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Roger Stevens Drive in Montague Township.
Police say officers were called to the scene shortly before 8 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026. When officers arrived, they located the vehicle and spoke with the driver.
Following the investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to the Smiths Falls Police Detachment for further testing.
As a result, 46-year-old James Sweet has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, and careless driving.
Sweet was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on March 23, 2026.
His driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days under provincial law.
