International Women’s Day event aims to inspire action and support women
A local group is inviting the community to come together in Perth to celebrate International Women’s Day and continue the conversation about equality for women and girls.
International Women’s Day, marked annually on March 8, highlights the achievements of women and calls for progress on issues like equality, opportunity and safety.
The Perth and District branch of the Canadian Federation of University Women is hosting a special event at the Studio Theatre that will feature a documentary screening, a guest speaker and discussion.
Communications co-chair Alanna Scanlon sat down with our Lynda D’Aoust to talk about it.
Scanlon told Lynda, the day encourages people to support one another through advocacy and community action.
The event includes a screening of the documentary “The Nest,” a 90-minute film exploring the experiences of women.
Proceeds from the event will support Lanark County Interval House.
Scanlon told Lynda, a guest speaker will also share her perspective.
Scanlon says the goal is to keep the conversation going well beyond one day each year.
